Here at RamCity.co.nz, we know that some people are nervous about buying products online. Every day people call us up, just because they feel more comfortable 'talking to a real person'. So we took some time to tell you a bit about our story and give you some additional 'Peace of Mind' when shopping online with us.

Humble Beginnings

our CEO Rod RamCity was founded by Rod Bland in 2003 who had dreamed of running his own online business since his early twenties (that's him pictured on the right with a couple of other staff at our last Christmas Picnic). It began as a part-time venture selling Kingston memory for a small number of systems, and the entire website catalogue was built by hand.

Rod had a full-time job already so processed orders in the early morning and developed the website and systems in the evening after work. The business grew and about 9 months later Rod quit his job and took the plunge into working on the business full-time.

Branching Out

on the floor at our manufacturing partners facilityRamCity began selling Kingston products only in Australia in 2003, New Zealand in 2004, and UK and the US in 2005. Many other competitors were entering the market at that time, so in 2005 we began searching for manufacturing partners to produce our own brand of memory as a means of diversifying our business and offering customers a lower priced, yet high quality memory upgrade alternative. Fortunately we met a CMTL Certified and ISO 9001-2008 Registered Manufacturer which suited our needs perfectly. They produce over 6 Million memory modules a year, and we are one of their largest online retailer customers.

Partnering Up

After a couple of years, there were too many orders to do our own warehousing, picking, packing and shipping, so we outsourced this to a publicly listed 3PWL (Third Party Warehousing and Logistics) company. They now handle around 1500 orders each month on our behalf from locations in Brisbane, Australia and Auckland, New Zealand, with 90% of orders shipping the same day and arriving 1-2 business days later.

Building the Team

Due to our use of expert outsourcing, our Team remains a small group of 5 6 people, with the majority working in the Customer Service Team. We believe that we know our customers and products best, so intend to always keep our customer service staff in-house. You can read more about our people on our About Us page. We ship fast — same or next business day dispatch (once payment is received) When your order is sent on its way, we will email you a tracking number so you can trace your delivery online. We also fully insure all deliveries in the unlikely event a parcel is lost in transit, and have the most comprehensive industry-leading Return Policy that we know of.
