Q: There are many different memory options for my system - which is the best?
Generally speaking, the larger the upgrade, the greater the potential system performance increase. So, a 2GB upgrade is better than a 1GB upgrade, which is better than a 512MB upgrade. Some systems also handle different memory speeds, such as DDR-333 and DDR-400, or DDR2-533 and DDR2-667. In most cases the modules with the higher number will provide better performance. Check the system specifications comments up on the top right hand side of this page, and read more about the different memory speeds and what they mean.
Q: What do the different memory speeds mean?
Read our FAQ page about the different memory speeds and what they mean.
Q: How much is delivery and how long will it take?
See our Shipping Information Page for details.
Q: Will my system recognise the maximum RAM upgrade?
The maximum memory your OS will recognise (whether it be Windows, Mac OS, or Linux/Unix) depends on the version you are running. 32-bit operating systems (which most people use) will usually see (and utilise) somewhere between 3GB to 3.5GB, depending on the peripheral configuration and motherboard limitations. A 64-bit OS will recognise beyond 4GB. Read more.
Q: How much memory can my system handle?
The maximum memory capacity for your system is shown above on the right hand side of the page. In the future, software applications will make increasing demands on your system resources, particularly the amount of system memory they need to use. Adding the maximum amount of memory will improve the performance of your system now and extend the useful life of your computer in the future.
Q: Do I have to install memory in matching pairs?
In most cases the answer is no, you can install modules one at a time, and you can mix different module sizes in your computer. However, if your computer supports dual-channel memory mode, you should install in identical pairs for optimal performance. Check the comments above on the right hand side for more details.
Q: How do I install the memory upgrade?
Installing memory in your system is usually a simple process. We have static and video installation guides available.
Q: Will installing an upgrade from RamCity affect my warranty?
You can rest assured that adding third party memory to your system does NOT void your warranty. You should take precautions when opening the case of your computer though, so we recommend to always refer to your owners manual or follow one of our online installation guides when installing a memory upgrade.
